Education at Central Catholic St. Nicholas School began in 1854. We are predominantly African-American and
80% of our students come from faith traditions other
than Catholic. We come from throughout Missouri and Illinois.
We are 240 elementary school students in pursuit of an education that will prepare us to take our proper place in the community.
We are 87 children at our preschool, from 6 weeks through 5 years old who are learning about ourselves.
All of us will complete high school and many will pursue higher education.
Our students rank in the Top 20% of the
nation for Emotional IQ or EQ.
We rank in the top 10% when we enter high school. Our 8th graders have gone to St. Louis University High, DeSmet, Rosati-Kain, CBC, St. Elizabeth's Academy, Althoff, Bishop DuBourg, Cardinal Ritter Prep, and a number of local public high schools.
We have foreign language skills in Spanish
We participate in service projects to give back to the community.
Of our families, 75% fall at or below the federal poverty level which means the majority of our families are contributing as much as one-fourth of their income toward their children's tuition.
The per-pupil cost at CCSN is $5,600. Of
that amount, our families with one student are asked
to pay $1,900 in tuition. In 2007-2008 we will need $830,000 to offset the gap between actual pupil costs and the tuition rate.
