Central Catholic St. Nicholas School and Academy
In 2005 Fr. John Phelps became the Pastor of St.
Alphonsus "Rock" Catholic Church in St. Louis. After
two years in that position, the importance of
developing the role of President of Central Catholic
St. Nicholas School and Academy (CCSN) as a
College-prep School emerged. Fr. John was chosen to
be its first President. The school begins at 6 weeks
and goes through 8th grade with 94% of the parents
applying for tuition assistance receive assistance
(aid).
He is also the President of Life Directions, a
national organization that works in Public High
Schools and among young adults (18 to 35 years of
age) to develop a hunger for positive values. He
co-founded Life Directions (www.lifedirections.org)
in 1973 with four other concerned Detroiters. Its
vision is for peers to inspire their peers through
forgiving. The work has impacted over 140,000 young
adults in Detroit, Chicago, San Antonio, Tucson, New
Orleans and Marion County, Oregon.
He has spent most of his ministerial
life working among people who are economically
challenged. He has conducted over 180 multi-cultural
Young Adult Retreats, given over 100 Revivals,
designed and implemented programs and activities for
youth and young adults in Public Schools and their
surrounding neighborhoods.
He has taught and led hundreds of
workshops in many cities and at various colleges and
universities throughout the United States and
abroad. He serves as a consultant to various
ecumenical organizations, churches, corporations and
educational institutions with a priority on
inclusive partnership among people of diverse
backgrounds and economic differences. |
